What is the
Apprenticeship Levy?
Announced in 2015 and implemented in 2017, the Apprenticeship Levy can be thought of as a UK-wide tax on organisations who have a total salary bill of more than £3M. The payments can only be spent on apprenticeship training delivered by approved apprenticeship training providers, and supports quality programmes by putting employers at the centre of the system.
LEARN MOREWhy choose an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships benefit both the employer and the individual; it is proven that an apprentice’s passion and willingness to integrate themselves into the workplace makes them a great addition to any team. In turn, they learn valuable professional and technical skills that they can’t get from a degree, all whilst earning.

As an apprenticeship is a vocational course where classroom-based learning is reinforced within my day-to-day role, it facilitates a thorough understanding of the principles of procurement and has swiftly improved my work-based knowledge and skills.
Anthony Cooper, Commercial Procurement and Supply Apprenticeship
We have worked hard to develop and launch our in-house training offering. Working with individuals who are progressing through the organisation, and developing them through to senior roles is a key attribute of ESPO.
Sheena Kocherhans, Category Manager, ESPO
During my apprenticeship I was able to learn a great deal about the various aspects of people management, since completing my work has been recognised and I was promoted to the Site Senior Management Team with a role to manage leadership development on site.
Mariola Balczerowska, Team Leader/Supervisor Apprenticeship
We want to give all of our people or future people a chance to make the most of their talents and create a better life for themselves; that's why we're committed to Trident academy and the inclusive routes into the Trident Careers Journey. We have recently commenced a professional qualification pilot programme for a cohort of Managers and Supervisors utilising our apprenticeship levy to fund the learning.
Kirsty Bark, Global Talent Manager, Trident
I've been studying with Encompass for nearly 6 months and it's been a great success. My tutor is always on hand if and when I need extra support in addition to our regular meetings.
Martin Hyland, AAT Learner
My biggest skill development was in relation to making conscious decisions on a daily basis that supported the development of my direct reports. Utilising coaching and adapting my leadership style to the different direct reports, allowed me to improve my relationship with them as well as have a better ability to develop clear progression plans with smart objectives. Another great skill development was around project management. I could understand better the different tools available to develop a project as well as apply what I learnt to the projects I was part of.
